Following the success of last year's lobbying campaign, we are again asking Members to go to the local office of your State Senator and Assembly Member.

We need to talk to the lawmakers and explain how the regulations recently proposed by the DFS will not serve the consumer, will impede the real estate marketplace and inflict irreplaceable damage to the livelihood of thousands of people.

Our lobbyists will contact your legislators and seek an appointment for you on In District days, which are Thursdays and Fridays.

You may meet with your legislator or you may meet with a staff person in charge of real estate or insurance issues.  What is important is that they learn about the title insurance business from you and they recognize that there are voters in the district that are title people.

This is how local lobby day works:

  • In some cases you may be the only title person in a district or there may be several title people interested in meeting with the legislators.
  • Our lobbyist in Albany will contact your State Senator and Assembly Member to tell them you are interested in having a short meeting in the local district office.

  • The lobbyist will explain you work in the title business and that you want to share your concerns about DFS regulations that will have a negative impact on you, your co-workers and on the real estate business in your local economy.

  • We will ask for a few dates and times your legislator is available to see you.

  • We will contact you to select a meeting time that is convenient for you.

  • If you have never met with a legislator before, we will give you a short crash course on what to do (and what NOT to do).

  • Prior to your meeting, we will provide you with suggested talking points about regulations 206 and 208.  We will give you guidelines so we tell a consistent story and build a strong foundation in Albany.

Just 15 or 20 minutes with a legislator or senior staff member helps make the connection we need to get the support of the entire legislature.
